Glen Burnie Fatal Fire

Just before midnight last night the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the the 400 Block of Wellham Avenue in Glen Burnie for a dwelling fire with reported occupants trapped. A man estimated to be in his early 40’s was removed from the basement and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Injuries or Deaths: 1) A male estimated to be in his early 40’s was removed from the basement by firefighters and transported by paramedics to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased at BWMC. 2) A 32-year-old female was removed from the basement by firefighters and was transported by paramedics to the Burn Center at John Hopkins Bayview Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries 3) A 5-year-old male patient was removed from the basement by firefighters and was transported by paramedics to the pediatric trauma center at John Hopkins Hospital with critical, possibly life-threatening injuries. 4-7) Paramedics transported a 31-year-old male and three females ages 3, 22 and 44 to BWMC with minor injuries. They were all occupants of the home and evacuated before the arrival of firefighters.

Additional Information: Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke from all sides of a single-family dwelling. Firefighters rapidly located and removed three occupants from the basement. The fire was contained to the basement and brought under control in about 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
