Sarasota, Florida (Arundel News Network) – Over the next two weeks the Baltimore Orioles will return to their home away from home; Sarasota, Florida to start their spring training workouts before the 2019 regular season. Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow while the rest of the team will report next week.
The Orioles will then have their first spring training game in Sarasota on February 23 against the Minnesota Twins. By the end of March (March 28) the Orioles will start the regular season against one of their all time rivals the New York Yankees. They will return to Baltimore on April 4 for their home opener again against the New York Yankees in a 3 game series.
There is hope for the Orioles this year as they start their rebuilding under an entire new coaching and front office staff. The Orioles finished last in Major League Baseball during the 2018 season with a 47-115 record.
The Orioles are not counting anything out including bringing back veteran outfielder Adam Jones or veteran catcher Caleb Joseph.
As of today, 21 year old Yolbert Sanchez from Cuba has been cleared to sign with any big league team.Both the Rangers and the Astros went to the Dominican Republic to scout Sanchez where he currently lives.
Sanchez played three season in the Cuban National Series before leaving in 2018. He played in 128 games and batted an average of .367 through those seasons. He also only struck out 8.7% during his 435 plate appearances.
