Millersville, Maryland (Arundel News Network) – A suspect has been identified in the July 2, 2018 homicide of Dantae Nashaun Simmons, a 24 year-old-male from Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Police responded to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center around 8:10 p.m. on July 2 for an adult male shooting victim. A witness drove Mr. Simmons to the hospital. Other witnesses took the police to the area where the shooting happened in the 500 block of Short Curve Road in Glen Burnie. An extensive search was conducted by Air, K-9, multiple detectives and the Evidence Collection Unit (ECU).
Over the past several months the investigation has continued and detectives have followed up on many leads and interviewed multiple witnesses. With this additional information the police were able to executive several search warrants which lead to additional evidence related to the shooting death of Mr. Simmons.
With the help of witnesses and physical evidence collection at the crime scene and suspect was identified. On Tuesday February 12, 2019 an arrest warrant was obtained for Darius Devon Mackell. Mackell is a 19 year-old male from Annapolis, Maryland. During the early morning hours of Wednesday February 13, 2019 Darius Mackell was taken into custody in the 200 block of Victor Parkway without incident.
The suspect has been charged with First and Second Degree murder, First Degree Assault, Firearm Use in a Felony Violent Crime and Handgun in vehicle and on person. Darius Mackell is currently being held in the Anne Arundel County Detection Center on a no bond status.
