Orioles sign Alcides Escobar to minor league deal

SARASOTA, Fla. (ANN) – The Orioles signed former All Star and Gold Glove winner Alcides Escobar to a minor league contract Saturday..

In a statement general manager Mike Elias said ” Alcides Escobar will add a great veteran option to the middle-infield competition we have brought into this camp. We look forward to having him join us here in Sarasota and enter the mix.”

Escobar averaged 155 games per season in eight seasons with the Royals. While he is a former Gold Glove winner, he has never done much at the plate. Over 11 big-league seasons, he’s hitting .258 with just 41 homers.
