Hardesty gets 90 days in Jail

Riva, Maryland (ANN) – William Hardesty of Riva, Maryland who was wanted by Florida Officials has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for two counts of violating the Migratory Bird Act and two counts of animal cruelty.
Hardesty was credited with 40 days time served since his arrest in Ocean City. He was also fined $1,000 and was given one year of probation.

Hardesty was arrested in Ocean City back on March 15 on a warrant by the
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. A week earlier a video of himself jumping on a federally protected pelican went viral.

Florida officials originally charged him with the following:

  • Two Counts of Conservation-Animals-Torment Deprive Mutilate Kill
  • Two Counts of Violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty
  • Offering/Feeding Pelicans

The state droped the Offering/Feeding Pelicans charge.
