Child hurt after Hit and Run Accident

Laurel, Maryland (ANN) – Earlier this morning around 7:00 a.m. officers responded to the area of Shoreline Blvd and Bayou Bend Blvd in laurel for a reported hit and run accident. Anne Arundel First Alert brought you the initial information when officers were first dispatched.

Officers learned that an 8-year-old child was struck by a dark colored SUV type vehicle while attempting to board a school bus. The child was transported to a local pediatric center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The police were asking for anyone who might have information related to the incident or witnessed the crash to contact them at 410-222-8610.

In the past 30 minutes the police released additional information. The driver of the vehicle in question turned himself into police. He did advise that he did indeed stop at the scene but only left after the child ran away (presumably to go home).

The driver who was identified as 37-year-old Jame Hunter of Laurel, Maryland was charged with leaving the scene of an accident. The cause of the crash was ruled pedestrian error as the driver was driving in a location not required to stop. There is no further information at this time.

Since traffic charges for failure to remain on the scene of an injury crash, no mug shot was taken.
